    Railroad History in 1936 - Streamliners!

  • The Santa Fe Railway inaugurates the all-diesel powered Super Chief passenger train between Chicago and Los Angeles on May 12, 1936. You can find the timetable on Page 890 - click here to see it.

  • Three famous streamliners also made their debut Union Pacific in 1936:
    • The "City of Los Angeles", using the streamliner trainset M-10002, running from Chicago to Los Angeles, on May 15
    • The M-10004 streamliner trainset enters service on the "City of San Francisco" passenger train on June 14.
    • The first "City of Denver" on June 18. (Click here to see page 787)

  • Also in 1936, Illinois Central's Green Diamond trainset is placed in service between Chicago and St. Louis (Advertised on page 607) - click here to see it.
